DATES: Saturdays 11/12, 11/19, 12/3, 12/10
(*Note: No class Saturday 11/26)
Class Description: This is an intermediate-level mechanics skills class, intended to go beyond the introductory skills we cover in our bike tune-up class. However, we will also cover many basics. At the end of the class, students should be more comfortable overhauling, servicing, and diagnosing problems with their bikes.
Prior experience with bicycle repair is not required. Students are encouraged to practice or review skills and repairs learned in the class during Cycles for Change’s Open Shops or Volunteer Nights. Please note that as a student learning and applying skills, you may not finish all of the repairs you want to do on your bike within the designated class time.
1. Basic maintenance/preventative maintenance, bike inspection, tire/tube replacement/repair
2. Bearing systems
3. Wheel truing, brake function and adjustment
4. Shifting, cables and housing inspection/replacement
Cost: We have a pay-what-you can policy for our programs, as we are committed to making our classes accessible to all. We suggest a scale of $25-$125 for the 4-week course. This helps us cover the cost of the space, materials, and staff time. If your finances are very limited and you are not able to pay anything at this time, please still sign up!
